Snowdrops symbolise resilience, new beginnings and hope
Welcome to Snowdrop Counselling Services
Lisa Filer Snowdrop Counselling Services Hello, I'm Lisa the founder of Snowdrop Counselling Services. I believe counselling is often life changing and can at times be a life saving experience. I also believe that you are the centre of the therapy and I will draw on my skills and experiences to tailor our sessions to meet your needs. By listening to your concerns without judgement but with acceptance and empathy, I can help you to feel supported, heard, not alone and to get 'back on track' again.

I'm a qualified counsellor and have been practising in local charities since 2016 to those aged 12 years and over experiencing a variety of concerns. What clients have said they like most about me is that I am just a normal person who is laidback, nice, caring, funny, compassionate, well skilled and likes to wear jeans with trainers!

My practice is a warm and welcoming room in a quiet location on the outskirts of the town centre in Taunton. Somerset. Unfortunately due to my premises being in an old building there is no lift access so it is not suitable for those with limited mobility - but I can offer online therapy in this instance.

I offer a free 20-30 minute consultation to get to know each other before paid sessions start. Appointments are for 1 hour and I mainly work in person but can also offer online sessions too. I do not work with couples.

Please explore my website to learn more. If you do not find the answers you are looking for then please contact me for further help.
Snowdrop Counselling Services room central Taunton How can I help?
You are most likely here due to something in your life being challenging causing you to feel stressed and anxious. Are you also generally not feeling 'you' and unsure of your future - but knowing that you don't want to carry on like this? Maybe you are struggling with a current situation and feel like no-one gets it? Or perhaps you are dealing with something from your past that you want to explore more.

It is a brave, courageous and hard thing to seek counselling but it is also rewarding and a life changing experience. Sometimes this can feel harder when you aren't sure how you feel or find it difficult to explain. I can support you to explore and better understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

My passion is working with both younger and older clients (from 12 years) and have a variety of experience working with:

Anxiety
Depression
Neurodivergence
Autism
ADHD
Trauma
Work/life balance
Stress
Relationship difficulties
Loss
Pet bereavement
Peer/school difficulties
Abuse
PTSD

I use my skills and experiences as well as a range of different theories as I recognise that one approach does not suit everyone. This is called Integrative Therapy.
Snowdrop Counselling Services Logo My journey
The following will help you to understand me, my journey into counselling and what experiences I can draw on to better understand you.

Whilst I qualified and volunteered as a counsellor I also did paid work as a Support Worker, I started by working with Children in Care as I understood what it was like to be fostered, to be part of leaving care services and knew it would aid in my counselling skills. I did this job for five years then changed to working with Children with Special Needs in respite care, two years later I changed again to working with Adults with Autism and Challenging Behaviour where I remained for eight years and left to start up Snowdrop Counselling Services.

During these years I graduated as a Counsellor and held a placement with a local charity that offered affordable counselling services to adults. I started here in 2016 and as much as I enjoyed it I also missed working with children and young people so I left in 2022 and moved to another local charity that specialised in counselling to those aged 12 years and above.

I have also experienced many hardships including being a Looked After Child, on benefits, homeless, pet bereavement, bereavement, depression, PTSD and yet despite it all, here I am.

My life is now dramatically different as I am happily married, have two children, pets, great friends, financially ok and at a point where I can draw on both my personal and professional experiences' to build a counselling private practice. Now you have heard my journey I hope you feel able to share yours and feel some hope that this storm you are experiencing will pass and that it can get better.
What to expect
I believe that choosing the right counsellor is important which is why I offer a free 20-30 minute Initial Assessment. This allows you to decide whether you are ready to engage with counselling and that I am the right person for you.

After you contact me I will reply offering you my availability for a IA and we will agree a date and time for this. At the IA I will take some personal details and will explore what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to achieve, I will explain what I can offer and an agreed fee. Hopefully during the IA you will feel ready to start counselling and we will get our diaries out to agree a date, time and frequency (ideally weekly). Having done shift work all my working life I understand that the sessions may need to be flexible and I will do my best to accommodate you.

There are no time limits to how many sessions you need, you can have as many or as little as you like as you lead the therapy and can discuss with me when you are ready to end so that we can work towards your ending process.
